InfernoMotorsports spent the winter testing
and rebuilding the Super Late Model , The
car recieved a new body, new graphics and
a whole new set up.
Winter testing went great with the crew and
friends working hard to get a better balance.
Opening day was much hotter than our
winter test and Joe was having a little trouble
in practice getting the car to turn in the center
of the corner, the same problem we were
working on in the winter testing along with
balance.
After practice we worked on the front camber
angles again and sent Joe out for his qualifing
run.
Joe was the 2nd car out to qualify and got into
some oil that was left by a car ahead of us and
spun the car, needless to say we qualified last
in the 16 car field and had to start last.
Joe and I spoke about running at the back of
the race for a few laps or going for it right away,
Joe said "to hell with last were too good , I'm
going to the front" So after looking deep into
my wallet to see how much dust and lint was
going to fly out , I said "OK, have fun".
The green flag flew and the field heads into
turn 1 and off 2 the entire field nose to tail in
the high line , Joe turns the car to the bottom
off turn 2 heads down the back stretch passing
4 cars into three and off turn 4, 2 wide down
the front stretch side by side back into turn one 2 wide
again, Joe heads right back feed off the bottom
passing 2 more cars into 3, the track goes yellow,
Joe is now inside the top 10, 2 laps into the race.
The track has a choose line at the start finish
line and when you commit high or low you must
stay in the lane you choose on the restart, the top
9 cars all stayed on the bottom lane so, my bold
hard charging kid picks high and went from 10th
to outside the front row, (the high line here at
vegas is slower in the corner than the high line)
So, I spoke to Joe on the radio and said "OK
you chose it you need to be ready to go to
the bottom as soon as I can get you a opening"
The green flag flew off turn 4 and side by side
across the start line headed in to 1 and I told Joe
"clear low" Joe jumped into a hole the size of a
peanut and raced off turn 2 in 3rd place.
The race continued until a red flag flew stopping
field on the front stretch.
The track went back to green and around lap 30
the car started to get loose off the corners so Joe
was slowing allowing 4th, 5th and 6 the to close
Joe knew he could not hold them off so, rather
than damage his car he allowed all 3 cars to pass
and finished 6th.
We have some small changes to make before next
Saturday nights race to correct the loose off the
corner problem, but it`s a easy fix .
stay tuned...
