Saturday night was race 2 and the weather is getting warmer
here in Vegas, as the weather gets hotter the car needs changes
as the track surface gets slicker,
Practice laps went fair for our hot rod, but, changes were
needed to correct a loose condition off the corner, Joe and
I looked into chassis changes, shock changes or spring changes
and finally decided on spring and chassis changes prior to
our qualifing run.
The changes were good, not perfect, but, made the car better
from the exit of the corner.
Joe qualified 5th fast and with the 2 car invert started inside
row 3, The race was follow the leader for the first half of the
50 lap race while the to 6 cars drove away from the back 6
cars, (only 12 cars this wekend)
With a couple of yellows the field bunched back up and
the choose cone was put out, Joe was running 6th and chose
to stay in the bottom lane while the back 4 of 6 cars chose
to take the high line, On the restart Joe had to stay close behind
the 5th place car with the top 6 nose to tail, a few laps later
two cars made contact on lap 43 and nearly spun in Turn 4 then
on lap 46 another yellow came out and a green white checkered
finish was coming ,
Joe was still running 6th at the time and again chose to stay
on the bottom for the green flag restart, Joe took the Horn
Industrial Services, MIM, Titan Monte Carlo hard down into
turn 3 but had to lift when Shackleford running 5th closed the door
on him, Joe charged hard at him again into turn one and
made slight contact on the white flag lap,
Again Joe charged him hard into turn 3 getting and finally got
side by side with Shackleford, they went side by side off turn
4 for the finish, Joe was hard on the gas pedel and passed for
a 5th place finish .
Haase was scored in second place and Romain Thievin of Paris
France, finishing third, after passing Gafforini with three laps remaining.
Gafforini and Joe Deguevara completed the top five
